Trevor and I have had a delightful Memorial Day weekend doing a TON of geocaching. In case you don’t know geocaching is a global treasure hunt in which people use GPS units (we use an iPhone) to find hidden containers. Usually the container has a log for you to sign and often it is big enough to hold little trinkets that you can leave behind or take away with you. People even hide trackable items and give them a mission. When you find a trackable you enter it’s number online and see if you can help it accomplish it’s mission!
Trevor and I have had loads of fun doing this together. It has been a great reason to get out and explore our surroundings. There is so much history in our part of Virginia, mostly involving the Civil and Revolutionary wars. In fact just a short walk from our house there is a public walking trail that circles one of these amazing Civil War fortifications. The Confederate army dug a huge line of these that stretched basically across this entire region that stopped McLellan’s federal army in its tracks. It’s amazing to see them today and realize that they were dug by hand. It really makes me feel connected to the history of our area.
